About us

mPress is published by Goshen College faculty, students and alumni, together with independent journalists and writers from other Mennonite agencies and publications (notably The Mennnonite and Mennonite Weekly Review).

This is our third convention, after having taken a sabbatical during the gathering in San Jose in 2007. We published five daily issues at the two prior conventions, in Atlanta (2003) and in Charlotte (2005). This summer we will publish four print issues (July 1-4), with news appearing only online on the final day (July 5).

The publication of mPress is made possible through a stipend from the Convention Office of Mennonite Church USA and the sale of advertisements. We’re grateful for our sponsors, direct and indirect.

In a historical note, we should credit the team of Goshen College faculty, staff and students who produced a 30-minute daily television news program at Nashville in 2001. They called the newscast mVision. Watching that news team at work in the sprawling Opryland Hotel made us wish for a similar opportunity, in print journalism. Two years later we set up shop, grateful for the name in waiting: mPress.

Tom Price and the communications staff at Mennonite Board of Missions (now Mennonite Mission Network) were most generous in helping us prepare for publication. The agency had published the “news sheet” for several conventions running.
